UMYUM Vegan Camembert

We were thrilled to find a vegan Camembert-style cheese in our local supermarket, from the Canadian-based company UMYUM.

As the website describes, this cheese has a “bloomy rind; earthy, sweet tones; and a creamy finish.” It is slightly tangy but not overly strong … it’s subtle but quite delicious.

The rind is lovely, and the cashew-based cheese itself is creamy and spreadable, great for those who don’t want the full-flavored brie (which Rebel Cheese does so well). We found it a bit flat compared to the Rebel cheeses, but it’s just perfect if you like a more subtle flavor.

And even more exciting, UMYUM makes artisan butters (in classic, herb, slow-roasted garlic, and truffle), which we can’t wait to try.

It’s great to see distribution of this Monroe cheese locally (it can currently be found at two major supermarkets in Southern Oregon: Shop N Kart and Sherm’s Food 4 Less), as it’s a great addition to any cheese platter. And in better yet, UMYUM’s products are not only completely plant-based, they are also non GMO, organic, and fair trade.
