We were delighted to find so many all-vegan restaurants and cafes in Lima; we didn’t have nearly enough time to try them all. But the ones we did visit were exceptionally good.

The first restaurant we visited was Seitan Urban Bistro on the Miraflores neighborhood of Lima (no website, but you can find them on Instagram!). We ate as much as we possibly could … decisions were difficult, as everything looked so good.
We began with cheddar-and-bacon fries, made with huamantanga potatoes — Peru has more than 3,000 varieties of native potatoes! — and these were amazing, rich with a lovely creamy texture. The bacon was made with seitan, of course, and the homemade cheddar was delicious.
We continued with a “cheeseburger,” made with soy and topped with cashew cheese … and vegan lomo saltado, a traditional Peruvian dish of rice and veggies that usually includes meat but in this case was made with seitan. To our great joy, both dishes were served with even more papas fritas.

And we could not resist dessert … again, the choices were difficult, but we got it right with the torta de chocolate, a beautiful chocolate cake infused with dulce de leche and topped with almonds, dried strawberries, and fudge sauce.
Don’t miss this charming, delicious restaurant if you find yourself in Lima!
