Vegan dining in Barranco, Lima, Peru

Our vegan dining tour of Lima continued in the Barranco neighborhood, which is a beautiful walk along the coast from Miraflores. Here we visited Florencia Vegan Kitchen, a lovely little spot in Barranco.

Again, it was a challenge to decide what to order on the extensive menu. We began with an empanada, which was gigantic, made of caramelized onions and vegan cheese. The pastry was especially rich and delicious.

For main dishes, we got the saltado de tofu, which was lovely (and served with papas fritas!), and the choripan, a type of Peruvian street food we were excited to be able to try vegan style. This sandwich is made with vegan chorizo on a baguette, and it came with a very hot sauce as well as a creamy vegan aioli.

For dessert, we had an avocado brownie with ice cream … they were out of chocolate ice cream, so we had the cappuccino flavor, which was icy and more like gelato. The brownie was rich, chocolatey, and perfect.

To make room for dessert, we took some lunch home with us, and they did such a nice job with our takeaway bag.

This is another place we look forward to returning to. And when you visit, don’t miss the cocktail list! While we didn’t drink anything other than agua, upon our return we’d definitely go for a vegan pisco sour (normally made with egg white).
